Touch of Class Steppers of Louisiana was founded by Tony (Chicago) and Rhonda (Indianapolis) Butler in October 2008. The organization was formed when Tony and Rhonda relocated from the Mid-West to Baton Rouge, LA. During the move to Baton Rouge, they set out to link with a stepping family in their new city. As it turned out, Louisiana is a state known for “Swing Out” and “2-Steppin” not Chicago Steppin. Fortunately, there was a small group of individuals who had the desire to learn Chicago 8 count Steppin. Because of Tony’s and Rhonda’s love and passions for the dance, and their own personal desire to continue to do the dance, they formed their own steppers organization and Touch of Class Steppers of Louisiana in Baton Rouge was born.
Since October 2008, the class has grown from 15 students who attended the first class to well over an average of 30-50 students attending weekly. Touch of Class Steppers are the true founders of Chicago 8 count in the whole state of Louisiana. Every group in Lousiana has learned from us or has branched out from us to form there own Steppin Group and we are prode to have intoduced the 8 count. We have had the pleasure of taken our group traveling to various Steppers Balls, exposing them to workshops, bringing in Tykmyn, Chernice, Larry Collins, West Side Mike, Bruce Dyer,Andre Blackwell, Baby Drew and our Sister Sarah Teagle. They also learning more about the history and various techniques of the dance.
